Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher Certification (HALT) is a national certification process that recognises teachers who consistently demonstrate high-quality teaching practice and impact aligned to the Highly Accomplished and Lead career stages of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (APST).

We’re pleased to share key updates to the HALT Certification process for 2026, designed to make the pathway simpler, more authentic, and more focused on demonstrating impact.

New streamlined templates for the full process, including word limits.

Stronger focus on demonstrating impact on students, colleagues, and community.

Flexible timeframe of 5 to 20 weeks.

Updated eligibility, including for school leaders and teachers in a non-school setting.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for HALT Certification, you must:

Have the support of your Principal

Have full teacher registration in Tasmania

Have been teaching for at least three years and had full registration for at least one year

Be employed in an educational setting in Tasmania
