Inquiries and Hearings

The TRB investigates and conducts inquiries and hearings into complaints and other matters related to the good character, competence, and fitness to teach of registered teachers in Tasmania. When necessary, the TRB establishes Committees of Inquiry (pursuant to Section 21 of the Teachers Registration Act 2000 – the Act) to conduct inquiries and hearings.

The role of a Committee of Inquiry is to consider the evidence and determine the facts of matters arising from complaints and notifications from employers to the TRB about registered teachers. A Committee of Inquiry usually consists of a delegate of the Board and two practicing teachers.

Notification of decision

The Board is to give a person notice in writing of:

  • Any decision it makes that affects that person or a person employed by that person
  • The reasons for that decision.

Application for review

A person may apply to the Tasmanian Civil and Administrative Tribunal for a review of a decision that the person is given notice of under Section 28 of the Act.
