Overview
The Code of Professional Ethics for the Teaching Profession in Tasmania (the Code) outlines the three key values which underpin our profession:
Integrity
Teachers will always act impartially and in the best interests of learners through active professional learning and development, and by behaving in ways that are honest, ethical, fair and with empathy.
Respect
Teachers will be compassionate, maintain professional boundaries, and treat learners, families and colleagues with respect and dignity.
Responsibility
Teachers will demonstrate responsibility by providing high quality education, collaboration, and leadership. They will act ethically while focusing on the best interests of learners.
These values are central in assessing whether the teacher is of good character and whether they are fit to teach.
The Code recognises that teachers hold a unique position of influence and trust with learners that should not be violated or compromised.
As members of the Tasmanian teaching community, teachers are responsible for reflecting on their own conduct and practice.
This Code is intended to be used in conjunction with any policies, procedures or codes of conduct relevant to the sector or education setting in which a teacher is employed.
