Maintain Registration
Maintaining Your Registration
All registered teachers are responsible for maintaining their registration. A registration cycle is five years from the initial date of registration. As a result, each teacher may be at a different stage of their five-year registration cycle, so options to maintain registration may differ.
Pay to Maintain
During a registration cycle, you will only need to pay the annual registration fee to continue your registration into the following year. This payment can be made at any time in your TRB Online account, before your current registration expires. Fees can be paid in advance for the number of years remaining in your registration cycle.
IMPORTANT: If the annual fee is not paid by 31 December, registration will automatically lapse and you will need to reapply. Due to the need to complete a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check as part of this process, reapplying can take up to four weeks to finalise.
Renewals and Reapplications
If you are at the end of your five-year cycle you must renew your registration (Full/SpVET) or reapply (Provisional), depending on the type of registration you hold.
When Renewals and Reapplications are Available
Your renewal/reapplication of registration can be submitted after 1 October 2026 in TRB Online. We recommend no later than the end of November to ensure your application to renew is completed before your current cycle expires. Renewals/reapplications are accepted during December, but we cannot guarantee that the application process will be complete before the end of your current cycle.
For renewal/reapplication at the end of your cycle, you are required to verify your identity again as a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check needs to be completed as part of this process.
Proof of Identity
The Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) requires evidence that proof of identity documents belong to an applicant where a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check is being sought.
This can be completed in your TRB Online account during the application process using biometric technology to take a selfie and compare it to your photo identification.

Full Registration Renewal Requirements
To renew your Full Registration, you will need to demonstrate your ongoing competence through one of the following:
Option 1: Teaching Service/Employment
You have met this requirement if you have taught for 120 full-time equivalent days during your last registration cycle (the last five years).
You will need to provide this employment information in your TRB Online account for the TRB to confirm that you have met this requirement.
Option 2: Relevant Professional Development Activities
You have met this requirement if you have engaged in relevant professional development during your last registration cycle. While no minimum hours are currently specified, about 20 hours per year of relevant professional development activities would be reasonable.
Relevant activities contribute to your professional competence, directly or indirectly enhancing teaching and learning.
You must list key activities in TRB Online and be able to provide evidence of participation if required.
