Assessment of overseas qualifications

Registration to teach in Tasmania is required to apply for teaching roles in Tasmanian schools and colleges.

If someone has studied to be a teacher overseas, the Board must assess their qualifications to determine if they are comparable to Australian-accredited initial teacher education programs and meet Board requirements. Previously, this assessment was done prior to an application for registration being submitted to the Board.

This assessment is now undertaken as part of the application for registration process.

This change ensures that Tasmania is more aligned with other Australian States and Territories. Assessment fees will still apply.
