New Leadership

The Teachers Registration Board is undergoing change and that change brings a renewed sense of energy, purpose, and enthusiasm.  Our office is now being led by Mandy Reynolds-Smith. Mandy has 40 years’ experience in public education, working 25 years as a principal and an educational leader. She is passionate about supporting teachers and quality outcomes for our students. Change brings the potential for exploring alternative ways of working, and an opportunity to evaluate our service delivery. Our three Managers are enthusiastic to see how renewal can support our agency’s growth, innovation, and overall performance working with our stakeholders to ensure quality teaching and our children’s safety and wellbeing.

Our new Board will be in place on July 1^st.  Our website will post information on the new Board as soon as it is announced.

Teachers Survey – What you told us.

In July-August 2022 the TRB undertook a teachers’ survey. The Project Lab have met with TRBs Executive team in the last fortnight and provided very clear data enabling us to prioritise areas of improvement.  We genuinely appreciate the time teachers took to undertake the survey and provide us with positive and constructive feedback for the important role we undertake in ensuring our children and young people have qualified and registered teachers.

Survey’s key messages

• Review Registration and HALT (Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher) procedures, improve processes and streamline delivery
• Improve the efficiency of the TRB services
• Build client trust, and understanding of the organisation and its functions
• Increase interaction and communication with teachers to enable better understanding of services they can access.

Annual School Census – Why do we do this?

School Business Managers and Principals will shortly receive the Annual Census. Our Act requires an authorised person, on behalf of the employer, to undertake an Annual Return relating to the registration status of all persons employed or engaged in schools/workplaces. It is an offence under the Act for the Board and employers to not comply with this requirement. If your school’s Watched Registration list is accurate, the process will be straightforward.

Website – Over the next month there will be information posted on the website regarding

• completion of the HALT pilot, its review, and next steps for Tasmania.
• accreditation of Initial Teacher Education courses and an invitation for interested teachers who would like to train as an ITE accreditation panel member, and
• consultation with key stakeholders regarding the Provisional to Full registration pathways considering national changes and teacher feedback.

RWVP – Please be aware that there is no longer a 2-week grace period after the expiry of your Working with Vulnerable People registration. This registration is granted by the Department of Justice and must be completed before the expiry date otherwise your Teachers Registration will automatically be suspended. This change has been implemented to ensure we comply with the Teachers Registration Act 2000.
