Australian Education Research Organisation virtual professional development workshops

The Teachers Registration Board of Tasmania welcomes enquiries about professional development opportunities from providers and teachers.

Most recently, the Australian Education Research Organisation (AERO) reached out to advise of upcoming online professional development opportunities for teachers on building explicit instruction and formative assessment practice in schools.

These sessions offer the opportunity to learn and reflect on the implementation of these evidence-based practices and participate in research to improve AERO’s explicit instruction and formative assessment tools. Separate sessions will cater to leading teachers and classroom teachers. Places are limited.

Participating teachers will be asked to reflect on their current practice by completing a survey and either uploading a sample from their teaching practice. For example, part of a lesson plan, information for students, a photo of a teaching/learning activity or completing a quiz. Attendees will receive a certificate that may be used for recognition of professional development hours, as well as a $50 gift card*, as the sessions also contribute back to AERO’s research.

Teachers who cannot attend the workshop dates may also receive up to $160** and a certificate that may be used for recognition of professional development hours by providing feedback on AERO’s evidence tools. Responses will help to further develop these tools and maximise their value for teachers. There are two surveys available, each takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. The project is being conducted by the Assessment Research Centre at the Melbourne Graduate School for Education, University of Melbourne.

*Offered for completing the full survey about AERO’s evidence tools at the start of the workshop (including uploading a sample from your teaching practice or answering a quiz). Two surveys are available, respondents can only be paid once for completing each survey.

**Maximum $80 per survey including uploading a sample from your teaching practice or answering a quiz, and referring up to three colleagues to fill in the survey on your behalf. Respondents can be paid only once for completing each survey.
