Progressing to Full Registration – new process

The Teacher’s Registration Board has undertaken an extensive review of the process for provisionally registered teachers to progress to full registration, with a view to creating a more accessible model while upholding the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers. We are excited to advise that our Board has recently endorsed the refined process and we welcome your feedback as we implement the new model and materials over the coming weeks.

The Inquiry cycle approach that has been adopted was developed through consultation with stakeholders in Tasmanian education as well as taking into consideration the models in other jurisdictions across Australia. It is intended that the new process could be undertaken within one term.

The Professional Standards Team are working hard to finalise materials to support the new approach and will be hosting both in-person and online information sessions for Principals, Mentors and Provisionally Registered Teachers (PRTs) throughout Term 2. You will be able to register online when dates are shortly confirmed. Draft Guides for Teachers and Principals/Mentors and the template Report forms will also be available on our website soon.

For teachers that are part-way through or nearing completion of their portfolio under the previous process, this can be completed and assessed as planned. We are also happy to work with you to transition to the new model, if appropriate.

Thank you for your patience as we implement the new approach to Progressing to Full Registration.

If you have any questions, or would like further information, please do not hesitate to contact the Professional Standards Team at or phone: 03 6165 5977.
