Announcing ... Tasmania's 10,000th registered teacher

Our 10,000th registrant is Amity Booth of Hobart. Amity is a '09 UTAS Graduate who is currently looking for her first teaching appointment in Tasmania. Amity has sent us the following information:

"I'm 25 years old. It's been a long road to graduation, but I couldn't be more happy with the results. Teaching's changed me for the better, which makes it all worth it. Before my teaching degree, I graduated from a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in History and Ancient Civilisations. I also started a law degree, but decided that law wasn't what I wanted to be doing with my life. I'm just really captivated by history and people's stories throughout history. In terms of hobbies and what I do in my free time, I play competitive lawn bowls. I was lucky enough to make the state squad this year, so hopefully by next year I'll be in the state team. I also dabble in graphic design and web page design, but only consider myself an amateur.

In terms of my future, I hope that I can find a job teaching in Tasmania. I love Tasmania so much that it's hard for me to even think about moving away. I don't think I could be happy living any where else. I'm looking forward to taking it one step at a time and starting out as relief teacher in order to gain more experience, but I can't wait until I take that final step in having my own classroom and my own class. I just want to be a good teacher, and to make a difference like my teachers did in my life."

Congratulations Amity - the Board wishes you well as you start your teaching career.

As part of celebrating our 10,000th registration, the Board is sponsoring Amity to join a professional association in 2010.
